The origins of KnightnGale Ranch
trace back to the late twentieth century, when the land was purchased by a
crazy debonair couple residing on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. After
canvassing most of California, the Paso Robles region was chosen for the
interesting people, outstanding weather, versatile location and incredible
scenery. A 309 acre parcel located roughly seven miles north of town
was ultimately chosen as the ranch site.
When purchased, the land was utilized to graze cattle and dry farm grain to include safflower and barley. These functions would continue to occur on portions of the ranch, even to this day. A master plan was drafted to determine the appropriate locations for the vineyard, winery, equestrian facilities, house sites, shop building, office complex and recreational equipment. Several landscapers were also consulted to design an aesthetically pleasing nature plan incorporating native flora and fauna.
Following the confirmation of
the master plan, the immense network of underground utilities was installed
to allow for maximum flexibility for years to come. Once installed,
water could be transported from the well, so landscaping was placed just
about everywhere visible to the naked eye. The vineyard took
considerable time to vet the correct stake positioning, root stocks and
varietals. Agents were sent across to world to parts of Italy, Spain,
France and Australia to determine the most desirable grapes given the soil.
After the vineyard, the winery was installed to take the fruit 'from the
vine directly to the bottle.' This affords the owners maximum
flexibility in maximizing quality and distribution.
The equestrian facilities took
shape alongside the first house. Welders from across the nation came
together to
assemble nearly three hundred miles of steel. The result was a world
class arena, pastures and facilities capable of housing ten
full
grown stallions. All are welcome
to visit the ranch annually for the regional cutting/reigning championship.
In addition to horses, the ranch is also home to cats, dogs, birds, goats
and at one point a turkey. For the hunter, various forms of wild
animals frequent the ranch to include deer, boar, cougar, bobcat and rabbit.
The most important aspect of the ranch is coexistence which is essential to
maximizing quality of life.
The future is incredibly bright as new vintages emerge, and construction projects begin to take shape. A new house and shop building are currently in the planning phases. In the near future the entire route to the ranch is going to be paved with asphalt. Visitors are always welcome and encouraged to contact the staff to meet every potential accommodation.
